We are currently seeking a passionate, strategic, and community-minded individual to take on the vital role of Chair of the Board for Basildon District Scouts.
As Chair, you’ll have the unique opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people in our local area, supporting and guiding the District in delivering high-quality Scouting experiences.
About the Role
The Chair leads the Board of Trustees in ensuring the District is run effectively, responsibly, and in accordance with The Scout Association’s policies and our governing documents. Working closely with the District Lead Volunteer and the rest of the Trustee Board, you’ll help shape strategy, oversee governance, and ensure our volunteer team is supported.
Key Competencies:
We’re looking for someone with:
Strong leadership and chairing skills – able to guide productive meetings and bring people together
Good strategic thinking – able to see the bigger picture and help plan for the long term
Effective communication and interpersonal abilities – to work with diverse volunteers and stakeholders
Integrity and sound judgment – especially in decision-making and governance
Knowledge of charity or non-profit governance (desirable but not essential)
Previous Scouting experience is not required — just a genuine interest in youth development and supporting local community initiatives.
Benefits of the Role:
Make a real difference to the lives of young people in Basildon
Develop and enhance your leadership skills in a respected community-based charity
Meet inspiring volunteers and young people from all walks of life
Gain valuable experience in governance, strategy, and nonprofit management
Be part of a national movement with over 500,000 members in the UK alone
This is a voluntary role, with a flexible commitment that fits around your existing responsibilities. Training and ongoing support are provided.
